The Hippo Pod: Wyatt
We recently introduced The Hippo Pod, Golden Hippo’s new podcast created by Hippos for future Hippos. In this new podcast, Employer Brand and Employee Engagement Manager, Tannum, talks about Golden Hippo’s exciting and unique company culture with the people who know it best. Our first episode highlights Wyatt, Key Account Manager on the retail team. His role involves managing larger partners for retail sales in the pet sector.
Wyatt began his journey with Golden Hippo in January 2022, beginning as a regional manager for the Northeast region. He started his current position after moving to North Carolina, as his former role was already filled in his new region.
Here are some of the highlights of Tannum and Wyatt’s conversation:
How would you describe our company culture to candidates?
“The first word that comes to mind is autonomous. It feels like I've been with this company longer than a year because of the collaboration between departments and teams that speaks to the inclusivity of the company. A lot of companies talk the talk, but it's hard for them to walk the walk. I’ll probably stay with this company for a long time and hopefully be able to retire here.”
What’s your favorite thing about working here? What makes you excited to wake up and open your laptop?
“It circles back to the company culture, knowing that I'm part of a team and that I'm part of a collective goal and not being micromanaged. Having managers that believe in us and give us freedom. For me being in sales, being able to get up and spend my day the way I need to and not needing to worry about hitting a certain quota. What I love about working here is being able to be a part of that family, which is especially important for a remote employee. It has that small company, family feeling where it’s very personable.”
What does a typical work day in your life look like?
“A lot of video interactions, going to stores, training retail partners and their staff on our products, how to better sell our products, how we can prepare to market other leading brands, and how we can fit in or provide other solutions.”
What advice do you have for job seekers?
“Embrace change. The sooner you’re able to embrace that change and have uncomfortable conversations, the more you will be able to grow exponentially.”
