The Hippo Pod: Jonathan
In this podcast, Employer Brand and Employee Engagement Manager, Tannum, talks about Golden Hippo’s exciting and unique company culture with the people who know it best. This episode, we spoke with Jonathan, who is an associate Audio Engineer working closely with the Video Production team.
Here are some of the highlights of Tannum and Jonathan’s conversation:
What’s your Golden Hippo story?
I’m an audio production grad from the LA Recording School. I came across Golden Hippo during my second year. I saw an open position and applied but didn’t get the role, but I continued to hear the name. Earlier in the year, a position came up for the Associate Audio Engineer position, so I applied again and now I'm here!
What does a typical workday look like for you, in the office and remotely?
In the office, I show up at my call time and prep everything audio-related for the talent. I’m very attentive- if I hear any noises, we’ll redo any lines. I try to keep it as smooth of a process as possible, then at the end of the day I’d upload the raw files. The next day at home, I’d upload the files and get ready for the processing, which usually takes me the majority of the day. I don't do the final mix- I then send it over to our other audio engineer who will finalize it and tell me how I did. It’s very collaborative, making sure we’re on the same page, and he gives me advice to make sure everything flows thoroughly.
How would you describe the culture to a candidate?
It’s very collaborative and welcoming. When I first got here, everyone was very welcoming and helpful. It’s a very kind environment and community.
What makes you excited to work?
Loving what I do- if you love what you do, there might be days where it can be a struggle, but it always seems to cheer me up. Also the people that I work with are very encouraging and make me feel excited.
